Lighted Collars for Nighttime

In the winter or a very late summer evening, it's nice to have some kind of light on your dogs while they run around off-leash. We are in no way affiliated with this company, but have had good luck with these collars for years and thought we'd mention it in case anybody is looking for an option:

Adding a Double Gate in the Canyon

Apparently the lower gate that goes down the hill into the canyon is getting a fair amount of use, and unfortunately is not a double-entry gate like the main entrance. There's been discussion of using some of our funds to add a second gate to this lower entry point. Any comments, please post or contact us.

Additionally, if any work is going to be happening, always nice to get other work done at the same time. Is anybody aware of other fence or gate type repair items that are required at this point?

Running Event Closure Aug 7

On Aug 7th SDTC will be holding it's 57th running of the Balboa Park 8 mile race which goes through Nate's Point. SDTC has placed signs at each entrance to the off leash area notifying the users that this is coming up. On that Saturday they will be using yellow caution tape from swing gate to swing gate to create the corridor for their race participants and will have monitors out there. This race will be held early and the runners should be through Nate's Point quickly.

But please keep in mind that that swing gates will be open for the duration of the race, not to mention lots of runners going through, so you may want to avoid the dog park saturday morning August 7.

Municipal Code Updates from the P&R Board

The Park and Recreation Board is supporting the new municipal code updates. The article in the UT also included this little quote from Chairmain Wilbur Smith:
“You think the banking lobby is strong — try the dog lobby."
This issue still has to go before the City Council, but it looks like there will soon be a 3-dog limit, among other things like not leaving your dog unattended (you'd think that would be widely understood, but apparently not).

Kiosk Installed!

Our new information kiosk is in! Thanks to Eagle Scout Peter Zeller, from Troop 4 La Jolla. Looks like a great construction job, and a nice addition to our park.

Any suggestions for postings welcome.

City Municipal Code Updates

The City is looking at updating the municipal codes to deal with dog off-leash areas. They will be holding a series of public meetings to discuss the draft proposal and seek input to make sure it works for the dog park community. The main points seem to be adding some personal responsibility for the actions of your dog, and limiting each person to three dogs.

The draft is here. The first meeting will be at the Morley Field Recreation Council regular meeting on April 7th at 6pm at the Balpoa Park Activity Center. Please note that due to public forum requirements, they will only be discussing this municipal code adjustment, not all dog off-leash area issues (like turf maintenance).
